About the event

A Harlem Wedding by Tiffany L. Warren
The wedding of the year. Two people who look perfect on paper. One small problem: the bride and groom are in love with other people.
Books & Blankets is staying in 1920s Harlem with A Harlem Wedding, a historical fiction novel inspired by the real-life story of Yolande Du Bois, daughter of W.E.B. Du Bois, and her highly publicized marriage to celebrated Harlem Renaissance poet Countee Cullen.
Yolande is young, spirited, and in love with jazz musician Jimmie Lunceford—but her influential father has very different ideas about the man his daughter should marry. Enter Countee: brilliant, respected, and seemingly the perfect match. Their 1928 wedding becomes one of Harlem’s biggest social events, but behind all the glamour is a complicated truth: neither Yolande nor Countee is marrying the person they truly desire.
Set among jazz clubs, Black intellectual society, family expectations, and the excitement…
